A call for critical and open pedagogies in Spanish heritage language instruction: Students as knowledge producers of Open Educational Resources (OERs)

This paper stresses the urgent need to implement critical and open pedagogies in language teaching, especially Spanish heritage classroom. Language courses are often compulsory secondary higher education typically employ traditional pedagogical models that structured by grammar and/or communication tasks. study introduces how teaching emerged as a field of United States offers brief overview their connection educational resources. then language, followed look at existing material. As an alternative this material, article shares project titled “Discovering El Barrio” which addresses innovative productive practice carried out class Lehman College, CUNY. In project, learners (HLL) became producers authentic learning materials for second (L2) learners.
